[Tsunami Advisory Lifted] The tsunami advisory issued for the Pacific coast of Aomori Prefecture, Iwate Prefecture, and Miyagi Prefecture was lifted at 14:05 today. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, slight changes in sea level may continue for some time, so please exercise caution when hiking near the coastline. If you are planning to hike the Michinoku Coastal Trail (MCT), please keep the following points in mind:

■ Check trail conditions on your own When walking the MCT, hikers are responsible for checking the latest information issued by the municipalities along the trail and determining whether it is safe to proceed. Please also make sure to review municipal announcements and the latest advisories, and plan your hike accordingly without overexertion.

■ About the “Advisory for Possible Subsequent Earthquakes off Hokkaido and Sanriku” https://www.jma.go.jp/bosai/nceq/#lang=en&area_type=offices&area_code=040000 The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued an “Advisory for Possible Subsequent Earthquakes off Hokkaido and Sanriku.” While the outlook involves considerable uncertainty, it is important to stay prepared for the possibility of a major earthquake. Hikers are encouraged to check evacuation sites and routes along their planned section of the trail in advance and to stay mindful of disaster preparedness.

As of 11:52 AM on Dec 12, a tsunami advisory has been issued for the coastal areas of Aomori,Iwate and Miyagi Prefecture. If you are near the sea, please move away from the coast immediately and do not approach the coast until the advisory is lifted.
