Although bears being spotted in urban areas have been making headlines recently, we have also received several reports from hikers encountering bears along the Michinoku Coastal Trail.
On June 22, 2026, an incident was reported in which two bears crossed directly in front of a hiker on the trail. Fortunately, no injuries or damage resulted from the encounter.
Please remember that, as hikers, we are visitors in the natural environment that bears call home.
By taking appropriate precautions and remaining aware of the potential presence of bears, you can help prevent unfortunate accidents and enjoy your hike safely.
