February 25, 2025 A new forest fire has been reported in the town of Otomo-cho, Rikuzentakata City, Iwate Prefecture.

Due to the fire, the JR Ofunato Line BRT is also reported to be suspended on the up and down lines between Rikuzentakata Station and Mori Station from around 5:20 p.m. on February 25.
There is a possibility that the fire may spread to the adjacent town of Suezaki in Ofunato.
The impact on the trail route is not known.
Those planning to hike in the area are advised to suspend hiking until safety is confirmed.
