This is an update about the current status of the Michinoku Coastal Trail, which was affected by Typhoon Hagibis in October 2019. (UPDATE March 31th, 2021)

While there are some spots that hikers need to be careful passing through, detours have been set up around the points that need time to be repaired. The Michinoku Coastal Trail route can be enjoyed as one continuous course again. We will continue to update this page with information on ongoing reconstruction and repairs.

For sections with closures that have been lifted, please make sure to still be careful as you hike. If somewhere feels dangerous to walk, please don’t force yourself to walk through anyway: take measures to stay safe, like turning back. Please use your judgement to make sure you’re being safe as you walk.

We will post information about future construction on the alerts section of our website. Please make sure to check the alerts when you’re planning your hike, and before you start your trip.

Information on closures and detours from Typhoon Hagibis are listed in the chart below. You can also see the information on Google Maps.
